New Delhi: Four months after a woman was reported missing in Kanpur, police have recovered her body near the District Magistrate's residence, leading to the arrest of a gym trainer in connection with the case. The police report indicates that the woman was killed in June.
According to law enforcement, the gym trainer fatally attacked the woman following a heated argument during a training session. Initially, the accused tried to mislead the investigation, but after rigorous questioning, he ultimately confessed to the crime.
The victim, identified as Ekta, was reported missing on June 24, and her husband lodged a kidnapping complaint against the gym trainer, who subsequently went into hiding.
When authorities apprehended Vimal, he provided inconsistent accounts of Ekta's whereabouts, claiming she was in Kashmir or Punjab. After persistent interrogation, he finally admitted that he had buried Ekta's body on the grounds of a government club near the district magistrate's residence. Following this revelation, police secured the area and commenced an overnight excavation with a heavy police presence.
"The victim frequently trained at the accused's gym. She had expressed dissatisfaction about something, which led to a heated argument between them. After that, he murdered her and buried her in a pit he had dug. He attempted to mislead the investigation, but after strict interrogation, he revealed the truth," stated DCP East, Shravan Kumar Singh, according to ANI.
